Hallo, all! Looks like a great month for Saiunkoku releases, with a Drama CD, some special goods, and a short story all coming our way this month! So I decided to try to get this manga chapter picced and uploaded as fast as possible. Fortunately, or unfortunately, it's not very long. But it does have a fair amount of awesome in it, so I hope you enjoy!
We start off with the opening page . . . alas there's no color page this time around. But instead we get Kochou with her hair down! Who knew that it was possible for her to be even more gorgeous?!
So naturally I had to close-up. I'm maybe a Kochou fangirl, it's true. Also I can't figure out what they're doing. Something with charcoal? Maybe it's a winter thing, or that big vase is some kind of heater? Aaah, Kochou, what lovely shoulders you have. And a superb collarbone. And a truely awesome neck.
Aaaaand, action! When last we left our intrepid heroine Kochou had just run off her prospective suitor by devestating use of said courtesan's incredible sexiness.
Kochou's awesomeness naturally resulted in a whole lot of close-upping.
There should be equality in oggling, is my general rule.
I would also like to know what shampoo she uses. That woman would make a fortune as a hair model, I swear.
Kochou is also for equal-opportunity flirting! Although perhaps it's just her modus operandi, such as it were . . .
Of course, Shuurei doesn't quite get it, but that's normal. ::siiiighs:: Oh, Shuurei. It's probably a good thing you have ambitious, overarching goals that you're trying to achieve, and also that your denseness with regard to the attractiveness of those around you approaches near-criminal levels, else this would totally be a harem series and I wouldn't like it nearly as much.
Some of the other denizens of House Kougarou! Somewhat grouchy at having their beauty sleep interupted. Of course, Kochou outshines them by far; I don't think anyone could sleep enough to catch up to her. There just aren't enough hours in the day.
Oooh, from the back . . . though one does have to wonder: what IS supporting the front of Kochou's dress, anyway? Somewhere, physics is sitting in a corner crying . . .
oh hai Eigetsu. You're looking remarkably cute and big-eyed there. Alas, your cuteness is not on par with chibi!Ryuuki's, so you do not get close ups. Sorry!
Wow. I'm just kind of . . . in awe here. Sparkles are SCARY.
One of my friends glanced over my shoulder at the manga when I was reading this page and said, "wow, that dress is working REALLY hard." I practically snarfed my tea.
The exposition will not be close-upped.
Kochou's rack, on the other hand . . .
Come on, it's the most splendid rack in all of Saiunkoku, which is pretty much the world if we're going by countries. Because if we say Saiunkoku is a mythical version of the Tang Dynasty, China was the height of world civilization at that time. Rome had fallen, Europe was a bunch of squabbling little kingdoms, the Gupta Empire was collapsing in India, the Muhammad thing was happening in the Middle East, the Aztecs and the Incas were hundreds of years from getting their respective acts together, and the Russians didn't manage to field a kingdom until afterwards. The closest competitor for the title would be the Byzantines, and they were busy fighting wars to reclaim former western Roman lands and dealing with several epidemics that devastated the population. And then they got to fight the Arabs. And then they were busy with the Russians . . . what a mess. The Byzantine Empire is rather fascinating, if only because it was always having some crisis or other.
World history = YUM. Kind of like Kochou: too big and complicated for any single man to handle!
Alas, we must depart House Kougarou for a time. But fear not! The author has provided the remedy for our sadness at no longer having a Kochou to oggle by giving us a Seiran!
And of course he is very oggle-worthy. Let us stare at him while we wade through this huge amount of exposition.
All right, it's not that huge. Anyway, I liked this picture of Shuurei.
And Seiran gets a close up for giving us some male hawt to balance out the female. Is it any wonder that I like to pair Seiran and Kochou up? They're possibly the two most gorgeous people in Saiunkoku!
That and I like seeing Seiran get pwned, and I think Kochou's one of the few up to the role. The pwning on this page, however, is being done by a certain ex-assassin . . . and oh, look! Somehow everybody completely missed it!
I will close-up Shouka, though, he's totally worth it. Plus I'm currently writing a fic with him in it for the saiunkoku_fic community's fic battle.
Foooood . . . ::drools:: Blast, now I'm hankering for some good Chinese food! And I just ate ramen today, too . . .
Some more soulful and sad cute from Eigetsu . . .
And some annoying dudes one table over, talking too loud. Don't you hate that?
The Black Wolf totally hates that. Unlike us, though, he's in a position to do something about it.
And everybody goes "WTF?! Why did that table suddenly slice itself perfectly in two down the center for no aparent reason?! What could possibly explain this unexplainable phenomena? Hmm, Shouka's not acting surprised at all, as if this sort of thing were perfectly normal and happened all the time, previously placid tables committing spontaneous suicide. Like those robbers who beat themselves up in the alleyway a little while ago. Huh."
A shot of Seiran's WTF face, because it's adorable!
"Oh, hai unruffled Shouka. You're looking very unruffled today. What were we talking about a minute ago? Oh, well, I've already forgotten . . ."
Oh, look, it's Shuuei and Kouyuu! Showing up briefly to make your fangirls happy, are you?
Well, you're pretty, so I'll give you a close up.
And our heroine again, because I like the picture.
"The-th-th-that's all, folks!" This is just info on the forthcoming Saiunkoku releases. It's a great month for our favorite series! Of course I'll be buying all of it, though perhaps not the drama CD . . .
Eh, no, I'll probably buy the drama CD anyway. Since I've bought most everything else . . .
And finally, another add for the other magazine! I'll definitely camera pic that, too.
Righto, that's it for this month! It's not terribly long, but considering how many releases we're getting, I'm not complaining. If you want to thank me, go over and participate in the fanfic challenges running at saiunkoku_fic and saiun_challenge!
